The youth exchange of the partnership between the Deanery of Augsburg and the South Central Diocese of Tanzania: living, cooking, singing, running and debating together. The 2023–2026 round is just ending; from January 2027 we are looking for new participants.

How it works

four years, four stages

Not a single trip but four shared years: getting to know each other, travelling there, hosting in return. The new 2027–2030 round starts with getting to know each other from January 2027 — if you were born on or after 1 Oct 2004, you can join.

2027 · START Getting to know each other and teambuilding Preparation weekends, Swahili basics and Zoom calls with the youth of the SCD.
2028 · JOURNEY Encounter in Tanzania Three weeks in host families of the SCD: living, cooking, singing, running, debating.
2029 · PREPARATION Preparing for our guests Planning the return visit: programme, host families and joint fundraising.
2030 · RETURN VISIT Being hosts in Augsburg The youth of the SCD come to the Deanery of Augsburg — we are the hosts.

Our vision

A generation for whom the partnership is not a bank transfer but friendships with names and numbers.

(01) Encounter, not sightseeing We don't travel to help or to watch. We live together: in host families, around campfires, in kitchens and church services.
(02) Eye level, both ways Sometimes guests, sometimes hosts. Programme and topics are shaped together with the youth of the SCD, never over their heads.
(03) Tomorrow's partnership Participants become leaders, leaders join the committee. This is how the whole partnership grows its next generation.
